At Mercator we are very aware of the fact that our company’s success lies with our employees. That is why we place special emphasis on the recruitment and selection of new co-workers.
We employ in all eight Mercator markets: namely, Slovenia, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Bulgaria and Albania.
When you hear the words “employed by Mercator,” you may first think of our sales staff you meet while shopping in our stores. For many people it is difficult to imagine the various employment possibilities that Mercator offers and, subsequently, may mistakenly believe that there are no suitable positions that match and complement their professional profile.
In reality, a variety of professionals stand behind the image of our company. Each of them has a specific role in their respective fields and, together, they are responsible for the successful and efficient management of the company’s business. From research on customer habits, analysis on product arrangement on shelves, development and maintenance of aesthetic appearance, product purchase and preparation, financial management, transportation of goods, information technology support, to maintenance work and employee care– all of this and more is readily found at Mercator. Each and every field represents a vital piece of the puzzle, but together they form a significant picture that is more than the sum of its parts. Here at Mercator you will be provided every opportunity to assert your potential in at least one of the presented fields and perhaps even more, should you decide to join us.
The personnel selection process is essentially the same in all markets. Typically, candidates first submit to us their job application and CV. If their qualifications meet the needs of the available position, they are invited for an interview where we get to know the prospective employee and his/her expectations. At the same time we present our conditions and highlight the various challenges and opportunities of the position. This is also an excellent opportunity for the candidate to ask us any further questions regarding his/her (potential) future work.
Candidates who apply for managerial, leadership or professional positions are also required to pass psychological testing. The testing is led and carried out by a qualified psychologist who ensures that the test results are treated both carefully and confidentially. The test results enable us to look at a candidate’s abilities and personal characteristics more objectively. These results also serve as a tool in the decision-making process.
In the final phase of the recruitment process, based on the applicant's CV, interview and tests, we select the candidate who, in light of his or her characteristics, abilities and experience, best matches the criteria for the available position.
What do we expect from our employees? We expect our employees to be communicative and dynamic people who are open to gaining new knowledge and new experience, and aspire to learn and constantly improve and enhance their professional skills. Our status as an international company means that well-developed, intercultural sensitivity is also a crucial characteristic of our employees.
In spite of the diversity and variability of work in our company, we can say with assurance that all our employees share a common bond – working in one of the largest company in Southeast Europe where there is never a lack of opportunity for creating and building a successful career.
