As the largest employer in Slovenia and one of the leading employers in Southeast Europe, we are proud to offer a pleasant working environment to our employees. Training and development, a comprehensive motivational system, and international opportunities are only a few of the many advantages of working at Mercator. Our goal is to create the kind of benefits that our employees regard as an advantage over other employers.

One such benefit is access to our knowledge database. We have a rich tradition and our plans are ambitious. We have created a considerable pool of knowledge across diverse areas e.g., acquisitions management, new service development, investment management, and retail operating process optimization. Our day-to-day business is invigorated by international challenges, while our professionals and managers plan, organize and oversee projects for all markets.
Our position as an international company adds another dimension to our work. Our best colleagues, especially promising and key employees, have the chance to work for various periods in one of our foreign markets. This brings mutual benefits to both our employees and our company. Employees gain valuable experience and practical intercultural knowledge while the company achieves the successful transfer of corporate culture. We appreciate and understand that going abroad is not an easy task, so we carefully prepare future expatriates for their new responsibilities. Furthermore, those who desire intercultural associations need not even go abroad. Our daily work is fully integrated into cooperation with foreign markets, and practically all our projects are developed for the entire group rather than one part
Knowledge is one of Mercator’s key values, resulting in a special focus on our internal trainers. More than 400 internal trainers account for up to 80 % of all training sessions and programmes carried out within Mercator. Moreover, the managers themselves are an integral part of the internal training team. Some examples of our in-house training courses are the international business academy, store-managers school, introduction courses, key-competencies development seminars and language courses. Naturally, we also improve and further our knowledge by means of external courses. Attending professional conferences, visiting fairs, and continuing education are the most common forms of such external education.

Part of developing our key employees is the estimation of key competencies. We use 360-degree feedback for both professionals and managers. Annual reviews and career interviews represent specific opportunities for further development, goal setting, feedback and career planning.

International business academy for promising employees
Our size and scope quite often present us with additional privileges. Together we know more and, thus, we achieve more. We can shift among different fields of work. If we need specialized knowledge, we rest assured that one of our almost 24,000 co-workers has it. Support and solidarity are connected with the care we show for our employees. The retail story is both highly dynamic and diverse.
