We know that satisfaction in the workplace is closely linked to satisfaction in life and, therefore, we offer our employees the benefits that lead to a better life, increased wellbeing and support personal and professional relationships at work. In addition to the benefits provided by law and the general collective agreement within the trade, we offer employees a number of additional benefits.

A good company also stands by its employees in times of misfortune and hardship. Workers who are in distress and in need of material, financial assistance qualify for support from the Humanitarian Foundation Mercator. We consider this to be a more important use of company funds than business gifts, greeting cards and New Year’s events.

We all hope to spend the remainder of our post-retirement life in as high quality, comfortable and worry-free a manner as possible. It is, therefore, important that we begin now to think about raising our standard of living and the levels of social security we will have in our retirement.

Hence we offer the collective additional voluntary pension scheme. This, through the Pension A company, d.d., is offered by Mercator, together with premiums that make regular payments, to all employees, and represents a secure path to long-term savings and an increase in pension benefits upon retirement.

One project that is expanding each month is Health promotion. We believe this to be an area where the needs of our employees and the goals of our company meet to mutual benefit. We have developed a variety of projects that promote a healthy lifestyle or – where all other efforts have failed – increase the quality of life for those living with illness. Some of the following projects are available in our markets: health checks, ergonomics effort, yoga courses and aerobics, as well as access to activities under more favourable conditions.

In 2007 we created the Mountaineering Association Mercator, which currently has 320 members. The purpose of the association is to encourage members to move in nature, mainly in the mountains, and get to know both natural beauty and cultural heritage

Employees can spend their holidays in one of Mercator’s 104 holiday units situated in various attractive tourist locations throughout Slovenia. Around 1,500 of our employees, together with their families, make full use of these homes every year.

We are especially proud of the certificate recognising us as a Family Friendly Company that we received for activities that facilitate work-family balance. We try to be as friendly towards young mothers as the retail industry allows. The birth of a child is certainly an exceptional event for parents and, in line with the project of being a family-friendly company; we pay special attention to the infants of our employees and provide them with our special Lumpi package.

Our Female Manager Friendly Certificate provides further proof of the special role women play in our company. There is no glass ceiling at Mercator, a fact that is best supported by the presence of a female majority on our management board.
